Our sea kayaking safaris are a very popular Akaroa & Lyttleton shore excursion activity among cruise ship passengers. Please book early to avoid disappointment. We welcome all ages with a good basic level of fitness and co-ordination can participate as long as you can get in and out of a kayak unassisted. We offer a fun and safe activity for couples, singles, families and groups of friends, there is no better way to make the most of your time in Akaroa & Lyttleton than exploring our pristine marine reserves by kayak with your own nature guide sharing their knowledge along the way. We love hosting visitors from the many Cruise Ships who dock in our harbors and are often told that our kayaking safari was the highlight of their NZ trip!
Our trips are scheduled to make sure there is more than enough time to complete the safari and also have a wander around the boutique shops and cafes in Akaroa & Lyttleton and be back on the cruise ship in plenty of time. Please note if you are arriving via cruise ship you must join our Crater Cruiser Safari as you will not be able to disembark the tenders in time for our Sunrise Safari if you are arriving in Akaroa. If you are docking in Lyttleton you will be joining our popular Quail Island Explorer safari which operates three times daily.
If you have booked a kayaking safari with us, please meet approximately 5 minutes before departure We will meet approximately 5 minutes before your trip begins, your guide will be there to greet you & they will walk you to the kayaks for a briefing and orientation session. Sometimes we have back to back trips so do not worry if we are not there until 5 minutes before meeting time as we are coming in from the morning trip and we will be with you at the designated meeting time.
The bowling club is the meeting point on Rue Lavaud, the main road through the town of Akaroa. From the main Wharf where the Cruise Ships drop off their passengers, and tourist boats depart from, walk off the Wharf and take a LEFT, following the shoreline & past some of Akaora’s bars, shops & restaurants. Keep walking on this footpath passing Akaroa’s beach area and then the BNZ Bank and then the Shell Petrol Station. The bowling club is close to the ocean and you will be able to see our kayak trailer from here. The walk from the main Wharf is short and will only take around 10 minutes. Its also a great way to get orientated with our neat little town.
If arriving in Lyttleton, we will get in contact with you to arrange the meeting point, we launch very close to the main wharf where our guests disembark the cruise ships. Finding us is very easy!
