Cruise Ship Shore Excursions In Akaroa & Lyttleton, New Zealand
Kia Ora! We love welcoming cruise ship passengers to our pretty little village!
Our sea kayaking safaris are a very popular Akaroa & Lyttleton shore excursion activity among cruise ship passengers. Please book early to avoid disappointment. We welcome all ages with a good basic level of fitness anyone can participate as long as you can get in and out of a kayak unassisted. We offer a fun and safe activity for couples, singles, families and groups of friends, there is no better way to make the most of your time in Akaroa & Lyttleton than exploring our pristine marine reserves than by kayak with your own nature guide sharing their knowledge along the way.
We love hosting visitors from the many Cruise Ships who dock in our harbors and are often told that our kayaking safari was the highlight of their NZ trip!
If you are arriving into Lyttleton and don’t want to miss out on Akaroa, ( who wouldn’t!) we can organise a day trip to Akaroa for you. This would include a 55 minute scenic drive across the stunning Gebbis Pass from Lyttleton. You would be able to take part in our Crater Cruiser Sea kayak safari, have some time to explore the village and then be transported back again in time for the last tenders in Lyttlton at the end of the day. We can offer you the best advice how to make the most of your Akaroa experience from Lyttleton if you let us know you are planning a visit.
Feel free to contact us when you are planning to make a schedule for your shore excursion.
If you have booked a kayaking safari with us, please meet approximately 5 minutes before departure, your guide will be there to greet you before you head to the kayaks for a briefing and orientation session. Sometimes we have back to back trips so do not worry if we are not there until 5 minutes before meeting time as we are coming in from the morning trip and we will be with you at the designated meeting time.
The bowling club is the meeting point on Rue Lavaud, the main road through the town of Akaroa. From the main Wharf where the Cruise Ships drop off their passengers, and tourist boats depart from, walk off the Wharf and take a LEFT, following the shoreline & past some of Akaora’s bars, shops & restaurants. Keep walking on this footpath passing Akaroa’s beach area and then the BNZ Bank and then the Petrol Station.
Turn left when you get to the cricket pitch/recreational ground, the bowling club is close to the ocean and you will be able to see our kayak trailer from here. The walk from the main wharf is easy with no hills and will only take around 10 minutes. It’s also a great way to get orientated with our neat little town. Check out the boutique shops, try some amazing coffee in our cafes, or try one of New Zealand’s best pies at our local butcher!
Our trips are scheduled to make sure there is more than enough time to complete the safari and also have a wander around the boutique shops and cafes of Akaroa. If you are docking in Lyttleton you will probably have heard of nearby Akaroa which was voted best cruise destination in Australia and New Zealand. Akaroa is a real highlight and well worth taking the 50 minutes stunningly scenic drive over the hill from Lyttleton, you will get some great photo opportunities!
From 2020 some cruise ships will not be berthing in Akaroa but will be coming into port just down the road in Lyttleton. Don’t miss out on one of the most beautiful parts of NZ, ask your cruise ship representatives about jumping on the bus, most cruise ships have organised buses going to Akaroa for shore excursions in the mornings as it is a popular request among passengers. Or contact us and we can book you transport. You will have plenty of time to join our Crater Cruiser Safari and the bus will have you back on the cruise ship in plenty of time.
Please note if you are arriving via cruise ship into Akaroa you must join our Crater Cruiser Safari as you will not be able to disembark the tenders in time for our Sunrise Safari.
On the day of your Akaroa Guided Kayak Experience if you experience any problems, if you are late or need to make contact with us then our phone line will be open from 7 am on +64 211 564 591. We speak French, Spanish and English.
